Army Cake is an easy, delicious dessert perfect for any celebration and serves as a symbolic expression of unity.
Cake Boss delivered a cake for members and civilian employees of the Army National Guard Readiness Center in ARLINGTON to commemorate its 375th birthday celebrations.
It’s a symbol of unity.
Army cakes have long been regarded as a sign of unity between military couples. Cut using a ceremonial sword by both partners in service to signify love and respect between partners as part of this longstanding tradition dating back to early Army service days.
This cake features swirled camouflage buttercream decorated with the “Army Strong” slogan and star, making it the ideal cake to celebrate birthdays or Veterans Day parties. Additionally, it would make an excellent groom’s cake idea for active service members or veterans of the army.
Nana Ling wrote down this recipe for Soldiers Cake on 8 October 1942, just months before World War II had come to a close. The instructions include sealing it in a tin for shipment overseas; at this time, the U.S. Army had recently liberated Vicenza, Italy, from Nazi control; its residents wanted to thank its soldiers with this gift from Vicenza. Nana Ling made this soldier cake as their way of showing their gratitude.
It’s delicious
Army cake makes an impressive dessert at any casual dinner, Sunday lunch, or spring party, and especially military-themed birthday celebrations for your kids and their friends. Additionally, it makes an ideal camping trip or tailgate treat!
Fill your piping bag with beige-brown icing. This is the centerpiece of your cake and should have an ideal thickness; too thin will run off into the cake! Add small increments of brown coloring until you achieve the desired shade.
To create the soldier, start with a small ball of pink icing for its neck and face. Use two eyeballs from a wooden skewer as eyes; add two mouthpieces from straws or pieces of chocolate as smiley mouths; spear each piece, starting with its feet, onto a piece of dry spaghetti; when complete, place him at the center of your cake using water between components to ensure they stick together better.
It’s easy to make
No matter who it’s for, this camo cake will undoubtedly impress. It’s a fantastic way to show support for soldiers and hunters alike and can add fun and flair to any party or gathering! While it may appear complex to create, making one is actually relatively straightforward; divide up your favorite from-scratch cake recipe among several bowls before decorating with colorful frosting!
First, create the icing. Mix yellow or beige food coloring with brown food coloring until you achieve your desired shade, adjusting as necessary until it reaches perfection. Next, make army-green icing by adding several drops of army-green food coloring to either beige or yellow icing and remixing it.
Once your icing is set, you can begin the camouflage patterning. Arrange various sizes and shapes of color blobs throughout your cake to achieve an authentic army camouflage look.
Once the blobs have been added, let the cake set for several hours until its icing hardens, at which point you can add gumpaste soldiers or hunting gear for an enhanced finish.
It’s fun to decorate
This cake is an easy and entertaining way to decorate for a military-themed party, graduation or retirement, promotion or anniversary. Start with any rectangular-shaped flavor cake of your choosing; add flags, toy soldiers, and vehicles in various configurations for an army design; for an added special touch, dust it with graham cracker crumbs to simulate terrain!
To create this army tank cake, you’ll need a sheet pan, box of chocolate or white cake mix, olive green icing, and sugar glue for the tracks. Start by creating the tank hull using olive green icing before carving and covering its turret using sugar glue. Finally, decorate with army tank decals using olive green icing!
This cake was decorated for a soldier’s birthday with camouflage buttercream frosting, while its non-edible parts (tracks and gun) were purchased from the 99 Cent Only store. For added fun and decoration purposes, the “Army Strong” slogan and star were made out of frosting as part of its design. Perfect for birthday parties honoring active service members, veterans, grooms, or grooms. It is also suitable as decoration at desert or safari-themed weddings!
