Hiccup is the eldest son of Stoick the Vast and Valka and was prematurely born.
Hiccup’s friendliness and willingness to give the benefit of the doubt leads him to trust people easily, which can sometimes become his Achilles heel, leaving him vulnerable to deceit and manipulation.
The Hidden World is the third and final film in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, following Hiccup and Toothless as they explore an unknown realm filled with dragons while coming to terms with a changing relationship and facing off against Grimmel, an aggressive dragon hunter who threatens them both.
This installment features more mature characters with soft animation. At the same time, humor balances out its dark scenes – few significant character deaths are featured, and even Drago gets his share of comedic moments (especially at one point during his brief appearances).
However, the plot remains somewhat confused and leaves many elements unexplained or unexamined, including the motivations of many of the main characters and why they act this way. One striking example for children is Hiccup and Astrid (America Ferrera). Their central relationship lacks much chemistry despite repeated declarations of love between them; all they seem to do is bicker over their seemingly insurmountable differences.
Another flaw with The Hidden World is that its main plot point – that the dragons are moving to safer homes – feels forced and contrived rather than natural to the storyline. While it serves an important message, this aspect does not fit within its narrative framework.
This film offers some striking visuals, including impressive combat parkour from the dragons and clever moves by Hiccup and Astrid. When one of Mook’s swings at Fishlegs, Hiccup reaches down and grabs his pet before flying forward and striking back, hitting Mook squarely in the back with his dragon tail flier! A similar stunt later saves Toothless during the film’s climax.
The film takes advantage of some of the new animation quality introduced in its second sequel to showcase more intricate body language from dragons and riders, such as how Dragon Riders now wear form-fitting armor that highlights their physiques, providing more details than previous movies.
How to Train Your Dragon 3 is an exhilarating, heart-warming tale revolving around Vikings, dragons, and Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Five years after events from How to Train Your Dragon 2, Hiccup and Toothless have established peace between dragons and Vikings in Berk. Still, their efforts may be threatened when a power-hungry warrior and his dragon army arrive on Berk Island and cause chaos.
Hiccup embarks on an epic quest to fulfill his tribe’s ancient destiny of killing a dragon by hunting one. However, upon finally capturing one, Night Fury, Hiccup realizes he doesn’t wish to kill it and befriends it instead – beginning an incredible adventure that will forever change both their worlds.
Hiccup and Toothless employ behavioral techniques based on reinforcement to address socially significant problems. For instance, to determine which fish is preferred by Dragon, Hiccup uses multiple stimuli without replacement preference assessment by scattering various kinds of whole seafood onto the floor and noting which ones the Dragon picks up and consumes. He also discovers that scratching behind its ears serves as a reinforcer.
Drago, on the other hand, employs harsher training methods to control his dragons, such as physical contact between their snouts and his hand to establish dominance over them. Valka stands in stark contrast, reaching out her hands as a gesture of trust towards her dragons. Hollywood depictions of these different training methods highlight the benefits of positive reinforcement, suggesting an increasing understanding of this approach in films. However, the film has been an overwhelming commercial and critical success, becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever and winning various awards (including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature ). Furthermore, it inspired two sequels on television and video game franchises from DreamWorks Animation, becoming their most successful animated feature ever produced.
This third and final film in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy brings this franchise to an epic close, culminating in an intense battle pitting Vikings and dragons against one another. Additionally, this marks Hiccup’s story coming to a climax and the longstanding tension between dragons and Vikings being resolved; also making a debut appearance of a female Light Fury who fascinates Toothless but tests their bond together.
Berk has become a paradise of dragon-and-Viking coexistence since the debut of How to Train Your Dragon 2, its spinoff film. Hiccup has established himself as a chieftain, becoming the alpha of his tribe and Toothless’. But when Grimmel the Grisly begins hunting Toothless down, Hiccup and Toothless must embark on a mission together in search of the temporary Hidden World where both can coexist peacefully.
While this film may not reach the same levels of success as its predecessors, it still makes for an excellent conclusion to Hiccup’s adventure. With stunning visuals and deeper storytelling than before, fans get a unique chance to dive further into this beloved franchise while discovering different sides of special characters like Snotlout, Ruffnutt, and Tuffnut that had previously only been hinted at now.
Toothless crashed upon being rescued by Hiccup in the first film and found himself here; also, his friendship with his newfound comrades formed for the first time.
This village houses the docks where Dragon Riders set sail; these docks were constructed atop Raven Point’s vast cliffs. A wooden walkway has also been installed above these docks so spectators may view ships sailing past.
Heather joins Hiccup and company as a new Dragon Rider, being her granddaughter of a legendary Night Fury warrior and overcoming her fear of flying. At the same time, Hiccup discovers that Drago Bludvist has an offspring trying to retake Berk.
Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon made waves when it hit theaters in 2010. Based on Cressida Cowell’s 16-book series, it marked a departure for Dreamworks away from celebrity-heavy comedies towards something with more Pixar flair – becoming one of the year’s top films with over 100 million viewers worldwide watching its sequel and TV show adaptation.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 may have altered some aspects of its predecessor’s narrative, yet it remains at heart a tale about Hiccup and Toothless’ journey as they seek to change how their village sees their relationship.
The film opens in a dramatic nighttime scene at a Viking village on a rugged coastline. Fire-spitting dragons attack as Viking warriors mount counterattacks; Hiccup is at the forefront of these fights as he rescues an injured Night Fury creature and learns to communicate rather than fight it.
Hiccup then evaluates his role within Berk and in Berk proper. With Stoick the Vast gone and Astrid in charge, Hiccup must assume leadership. While Hiccup had brought some peace between humans and dragons in Berk, most outside Berk still disliked them and wished to hunt them down.
Hiccup and Toothless must face their most formidable challenge yet in this world; here, they must put their relationship through rigorous tests that reveal whether or not their bond holds strong.
Trailers of the new film suggest an emotional story of loss and idealization, but more broadly, highlight our inability to keep what we love forever. Dragons like those found in Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro represent forces beyond our understanding and have long represented idealization and emotion in human society.
